Meet the base Ranger, which is forgettable.

Fun fact- there actually was a short run of 2012 model year Rangers, and they all looked like that one.

My family and friend circle has been swapping around a 1994 Ranger 2.3l 5spd 2wd since it was new, and that damn truck just won’t die. Over 400k miles on original engine and transmission (clutch replaced once). I learned to drive stick on it back in 2001. So did my friends, my cousins, my cousins’ friends, their friends’ friends...
That truck is a family LEGACY. I’m convinced it will outlive us all.

As much as I’ve loved Mr. Regular and his reviews since I started subscribing a few years ago, I can’t disagree with him more on this one. My father has owned a 2004 Ranger Edge with the 3.0 Vulcan V6 and 5 speed manual since new. It’s been 215k trouble free miles so far, just oil changes, brakes, tires, and the clutch (when I leaned to drive manual). I can’t think of a more reliable American car than a Vulcan V6 Ranger. Hell, I can’t even think of a more reliable car in general. You always see Rangers driving around for a reason. They’re good, honest, and reliable little trucks.

Didn’t the base-base Ranger still have the Pinto-derived 2.3L inline-4?
Also, yeah, I don’t agree with Mr. Regular at all. Pops and I bought a ‘01 automatic extended cab with with the 4.0L V6. That thing isn’t going to win any races but it’s built pretty tough and it’s likely going to outlive my ‘02 Miata.

My ‘94 has 269k on it and it still runs strong.

This has not been the best season of RCR. He already went over the chicken tax in depth on his Brat review (and I think also the Hardbody review?). The “Reddit Commentariat” Vantage review was just impossible to sit through, I think I made it 3 minutes [insert sex joke here].
